- The Beverly Carper Sewing Project Materials Collection consists of 13 folders of sewing patterns. instructional pamphlets, and newsletters along with a binder of written essays, notes, and various textile samples from 1934-1938 during Beverly Carper's time as a Home Economics student at Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute (now Virginia Tech).

The Beverly Carper Sewing Project Materials Collection consists of 13 folders of sewing patterns, instructional pamphlets, and newsletter cut-outs. This collection also includes a 'Spartan Notebook' binder of written essays, typed documents, notes, and various textile samples with descriptions. These materials were created by Beverly Carper, a Home Economics student at Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute (now Virginia Tech) from 1934-1938.

Beverly Carper was born on October 5, 1916, in Roanoke, Virginia. She was one of the first female students at Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute (now Virginia Tech) from 1934-1938. Beverly Carper studied Home Economics at VPI and is an alumna of the Class of 1938. Following the 1938 VPI graduation, she married George Reinhold Powley on July 20, 1940 in Wake, North Carolina. Beverly Carper is also the mother of Rosemary Poweley Cole (Virginia Tech, Class of 1964). Beverly Carper passed away on July 26, 1988, in Blacksburg, Virginia at the age of 71.
