This collection contains architecural drawings, papers, publications, thesis, correspondence, and a sketchbook from Bertram Y. Kinzey, Jr., a student and faculty member at Virginia Polytechnic Institute's College of Architecture.
- Biographical / historical:

Bertram York "Bert" Kinzey, Jr., was born to Bertram Y., Sr., and Gertrude Sampson Kinzey on September 25, 1921, in Holden, Massachusetts. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI) in 1942. He also completed his Masters in Architectural Engineering at VPI in 1943. He worked as a naval architect at the Norfolk Navy Yard for the rest of World War II. From 1947 to 1959, Kinzey was a progressor of architecture and architectural engineering at VPI. He then moved to Gainseville, Florida, to teach at the University of Florida, where he would eventually retire. In 2017, he received the Charles Paul Boner Medal from the National Council of Acoustical Consultants for his work in architectural acoustics.
Kinzey married Ellen Virginia Smith on November 24, 1944, and they had two sons, Bertram York, III, and Douglas W. In 2006, Kinzey returned to Blacksburg, Virginia, where he died on September 9, 2019.
