Background
- Scope and content:
-
The collection consists of a book, repurposed as a combination scrapbook and recipe book, probably created in the late 19th or early 20th century. There are newspaper clipped recipes, handwritten recipes, trade cards, calling cards, and index cards laid in throughout the book. Recipes include desserts, candies, pastas, breads, cakes, and others.
The published volume used as the basis of the scrapbook appears to be superintendent reports for the state of Maine, sometime after 1879. While the creator/compiler of the scrapbook is not identified, laid in cards and clippings from Massachusetts and Rhode Island suggest it was created in New England.
