The A. W. Luster Receipt describes food purchases by Luster in 1906. The author is presumed to be the same Luster--mentioned in Black, Kent, and Apperson family papers--who owned a local store in Blacksburg, VA.

Scope and content:

The collection consists of one receipt from A. W. Luster to J. A. McConkey, "dealer in fresh meats, fish, vegetables, & game in season." From February 1st to the 22nd, Luster purchased $20.18 worth of meats. According the receipt, he received the bill on March 1, 1906.

Biographical / historical:

A. W. Luster--owner of the collection's receipt--is likely the same persons referenced in papers from the Black, Kent and Apperson families. Born about 1830 and husband of Mary B. Luster, A. W. Luster was a Blacksburg, Virgina, farmer and store owner.

The A. W. Luster Receipt was discovered in a box of unrelated materials in September 2011.
