Background

Scope and content:

The collection consists of professional papers compiled over the course of Huffman's career at Virginia Tech (1971-1991). A majority of materials are group in subject files. Other types of materials include correspondence, administrative paperwork, and presentation, conference and research files. In addition, the collection contains the manuscript for Huffman's 1969 book, Instructional Media.

Biographical / historical:

Over the course of his extensive career, Stanley A. Huffman Jr. was a school teacher, administrator, professor, consultant, and producer of television programs for education with a particular emphasis on use of technology and media. He held degrees from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (now Virginia Tech) and the University of Virginia. From 1971 to 1987, he served as the director of the Learning Resources Center and from 1987 to 1991 he was the director of Distance Learning at Virginia Tech. Huffman died in 1993.

The Stanley A. Huffman Jr. Papers were donated to Special Collections and University Archives in 1991.

The collection is in its original order. For the most part, folders contain various subject files and materials from presentations and publications.
