This collection consists of a single ledger maintained by an unidentified business in Saratoga County, New York, possibly the general merantile store of Benjmain Grenell. The ledger contains the names of persons holding accounts with the business. The ledger does not contain details of transactions but instead records summarized balances brought forward from the business's daybooks.

One paper inserted in the ledger contains numerous instances of the name "Ben Grenell." Accrding to an article in the May 2012 issue of the Town of Greenfield Historical Society Newsletter, Benjamin Grenell was born in Salisbury, Connecticut and settled in Greenfield, New York, where he established a general store.
