Background

Scope and content:

This collection consists of a single daybook maintained by an unidentified shipper operating probably in Northampton, Massachusetts, during the early nineteenth century. The small volume contains daily entries listing customer name, brief description of shipment, and price. Most of the transactions are for goods transported either to or from Boston, Massachusetts. Frequent customers were Tappan and Whitney, Bull and Clark, Samuel Clark, James and Chester Cook, and Dikeman and Shepherd.

Acquisition information:
The Freighter Daybook was purchased by Special Collections and University Archives in 1988.
Processing information:

The processing and description of the Freighter Daybook commenced and was completed in May, 2021.
