Background

Scope and content:

The collection consists of letters written from George L. Ferguson while on active service with the American Expeditionary Force during and immediately following World War I in France and Scotland, to Julia Harvey Ingles of Dublin and Abingdon, Virginia. The letters are dated 1918 and 1919.

Biographical / historical:

George L. Ferguson, of Elyria, Ohio, was a Sergeant First Class in the U. S. Army in 1918 during World War I. While serving in France with the 306th Field Signal Battalion, 81st Division, A. E. F., Ferguson won the Distinguished Service Cross.

Acquisition information:
The collection was acquired by Special Collections prior to 1987.
