Includes information on the descendants of John Brewer (d. 1635) of Warwick County, Virginia, by way of London, England, including information on lines which settled in Brunswick County, Charles City County, Isle of Wight County, Nansemond County, and Northumberland County; and Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, and Tennessee. Other surnames mentioned: Broyhill, Burwell, Duncan, Earp, Hensley, Holliday, Netherlands, Rhea, Selden, and Souder. Collection includes correspondence, deeds, genealogical and ancestral charts, marriage records, newspaper clippings, tax lists, and wills relating to the Brewer family and associated families. Also includes research notes and drafts of several works by Marvin T. Broyhill, including The Brewer Families of Colonial Virginia.

Biographical / historical:

Marvin T. Broyhill was born on 11 November, 1941 in Washington, D.C., the son of Marvin T. Broyhill, Jr. (1918-1969) and Audrey E. Wilson Broyhill (1918-2003). Marvin T. Broyhill III had three younger siblings: Ronald Paige Broyhill (1948-1954), Randall Paige Broyhill (1958-1984), and Deborah A. Broyhill Mundy (b. 1958). After serving in the Air Force, Marvin T. Broyhill III began a career as a real estate developer, which included working on historic preservation projects such as the renovation of the Appomattox Iron Works. Marvin T. Broyhill III's interest in historic preservation led him to become an avid genealogist, and he created several Broyhill family genealogy webpages, in addition to writing a book on his Brewer ancestors, entitled The Brewer Family of Colonial Virginia. Marvin T. Broyhill died in March 2016.
