Correspondence and subject files, 1972-1986, of the Secretary of Commerce and Resources. The correspondence documents the development, establishment and implementation of policies and procedures on behalf of the Governor implementing the Secretary's mandate. The records consist of incoming and outgoing correspondence, reports, memoranda, budget documents and related materials. The collection is arranged into seven series by accession number. For later records see Secretary of Natural Resources and Secretary of Commerce and Trade.

Under the Code, Title 2.1, Chapter 5.1, the Secretary of Commerce and Resources is responsible for assisting the Governor in implementing policies for the conservation and use of natural resources, for promoting economic development, providing managerial guidance and direction to Commerce and Resources agencies, and developing and promoting Commerce and Resources programs and budgets. In 1986 this secretariat was dissolved and split into two separate offices, the Secretary of Economic Development and the Secretary of Natural Resources. In 1994 the name of the office of the Secretary of Economic Development was changed to the Secretary of Commerce and Trade.
