Scope and content:

These records consist of the maps and photographs made of prospective mining sites. In accordance with state and federal laws, a permit must be issued before mining can occur. This series documents that a mining operator has applied for a permit. Also includes maps and photographs for released permits, released bond forfeiture permits and closed unpermitted sites.

Biographical / historical:

The Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy was created by an Act of the General Assembly in 1984, consolidating parts of the Dept. of Labor and Industry with parts of the Dept. of Conservation and Economic Development.
