Amherst County (Va.) Fiduciary Records, 1763-1907, consists of a Record of Fiduciaries.

A fiduciary refers to a confidential and legal relationship which binds one person to act on behalf of another. A fiduciary is also the person who acts as trustee for another. This volume contains a record of personal representatives authorized to act as such.

Biographical / historical:

Amherst County was formed from Albemarle County in 1761. Islands in the Fluvanna (now the James) River were added in 1770. The county is named for Major General Jeffery Amherst, British commander in North America during the later part of the French and Indian War and governor of Virginia from 1759-1768.
