Biographical / historical:

Nelson County was formed in 1807 from Amherst County. The county was named for Thomas Nelson Jr., governor of Virginia from June to November 1781.

Acquisition information:

A receipt (found in Barcode 0007313242), in a file folder marked "Military and Pension Records", was transferred to the Virginia State Library (now The Library of Virginia) under the accession number 33162c.
