Background

Scope and content:

Middlesex County (Va.) Court Records, 1760-1903, consist of records organized into the local records series of Commonwealth Causes, Judgments, Court Records, Fiduciary Records, and Land Records.

Commonwealth Causes consists of one summons from Commonwealth vs. Bristew, 1903.

Judgments consists of a list of capias awarded and the following suits: Corbin vs. Boodrich, undated. Boswell vs. Didlake, 1760.

Court Records consist of an undated index to an unidentified order book, and an unidentified order book, 1870-1875.

Fiduciary Records consists of an estate book with an index, 1794-1795. This estate book contains estate accounts, and a copy of the will of Richard Bird which was admitted to probate in 1795 in Middlesex County.

Land Records consist of a deed from Ware and Wife, etc to Robert Thurston, 1779, and an undated index to an unidentified deed book.

Letter, 1840 Jan 16, from Edward C. Kidd to Henry Sears in which Kidd writes to Sears about his journey to Havana, Cuba. Kidd informs Sears that he is earning $800 a year as an adminstrator of a coffee estate and is fluent in Spanish. Kidd asks Sears to look after his affairs back home and ensure that his sister Miry has a good home.

Letter, 26 September 1849, from L. B. Powers to Henry Sears in which Powers refuses Sears' courtship and marriage proposal.

Biographical / historical:

Middlesex County probably was named for the English county. It was formed from Lancaster County about 1669.

These items came to the Library of Virginia in a transfer of court papers from Middlesex County.

Letter, 1840 Jan 16, from Edward C. Kidd to Henry Sears came to the Library of Virginia in a transfer of court papers from Middlesex County under the accession number 50290.

Letter, 26 September 1849, from L. B. Powers to Henry Sears was transferred under accession number 45454.
