Jefferson County (W.Va.) Court Record, 1813 May 2. The collections a letter removed from Jefferson County (West) Virginia court records. The letter was used as an exhibit in a case in which a Mr. Taylor and a Mr. Robinson and wife were defendants. The letter is from Charles Cocke, in Petersburg, to Bennett Taylor in Charlestown, (West) Virginia. Cocke describes his tentative plans to sell his estate, called Warwick, and settle his family beyond the mountains or in Alexandria. He also mentions an outbreak of illness in Southampton County.

Jefferson County (West) Virginia was named in honor of Thomas Jefferson and was created in 1801 from Berkeley County. It joined other western Virginia counties to form the state of West Virginia in 1863.
This record was replevined by the Library of Virginia following the trial entitled Commonwealth of Virginia vs. Larry I. Vass heard in Henrico County Circuit Court in November 1972.
