Background

Scope and content:

Collection of commercially released phonograph recordings, 1928-1976 and undated, by Virginia musicians and entertainers. The collection captures a variety of musical genres and styles including country, choral, gospel, and military brass band. It includes a U.S. War Department V-Disc, a recording by singer and WRVA radio personality Sunshine Sue, and a 1976 recording entitled She's Called Virginia: From the River Thames to the Sea of Tranquility, narrated by Joseph Cotton.

Consists of digitized phonograph recordings burned to compact disc.
