Scope and content:

Albemarle County (Va.) Deeds and Land Grants, 1758-1852. The collection contains two deeds and four land grants, as follows: a deed from the heirs of William Melton to John Wharton, 22 Jan. 1785; a land grant to James Norvell, 1850 Mar. 21; a deed from Bishop Taney to Francis Asher, 1758 June 3; a land grant to Samuel Perkins, 1790 May 26; a land grant to Thomas Garth, 1782 Mar. 13; and a land grant to William Page 1845 Apr. 4.

Biographical / historical:

Albemarle County was named for William Anne Keppel, second earl of Albemarle and governor of the Virginia colony from 1737 to 1754. It was formed from Goochland County in 1744, and part of Louisa County and certain islands in the Fluvanna River, now called the James, were added later.

Acquisition information:
The Robert Alonzo Brock Collection was filmed by The Huntington Library in cooperation with The Library of Virginia with funding provided by The Library of Virginia Foundation with the support of The Roller-Bottimore Foundation and The Robins Foundation. Microfilm received 15 April 2004.
