Account book, 1798-1854, of Thomas and William Steele, a general store, that records the accounts of individual customers. Each account lists transactions in chronological order. Information found in each entry include dates of transactions, items purchased, quantity of items purchased, amount owed, forms of payments, and amount paid. Items sold include nails, dry-goods, spices, dishes, clothing, and tobacco. Payments made by cash, credit, or barter of goods such as iron, feathers, cheese, and butter. The account book also records purchases made by Thomas and William Steele to replenish its inventory. Information found in entries include date and location of purchases, name of company from whom purchased, quantity of items purchased, name of items, and amount owed.
The second half of volume records the financial activities of a farm owned by the Steele family.
