Includes day books, invoice books, journals, and ledgers relating to the operation of general stores of the Holland family in Halesford and Germantown (1835-1844). Includes information on other accounts of Asa Holland (1833-1837; 1843-1845; 1900-1902) and his son Mark D. Holland (1870-1879). Also includes advertising items, bills, a draft of a deed of trust, and receipts (1835-1879), as well as a list of magazine subscribers (1854-1859).

The Holland family resided in Franklin County, Virginia. Asa Holland (1801-1879) was a prominent merchant and farmer in Franklin County, Virginia. His daughter Sallie Elizabeth Holland (1835-1920) married William Erastus Duncan (1825-1912) of Amherst County, Virginia. Asa Holland operated general stores in Halesford in partnership with John D. Booth, and in Germantown in partnership with Smithson H. Holland.
