Biographical / historical:

Francis Holmes Styles was born December 15, 1895, in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. For 32 years Francis Styles worked for the US Department of State and built a brilliant diplomatic career. He served as counsel general in Dublin, Shanghai, and Goteborg.

Francis Holmes Styles is son of Samuel Styles and Mary Riley Styles, after whom the library in the City of Falls Church is named.

In 2023, Francis Styles's daughter, Kathleen Styles, made a generous donation of letters and photographs to the Mary Riley Styles Public Library History Room.
