Financial records and photograph of Milkint Brothers General Store in the town of Thomas located in Tucker County, West Virginia. Includes two account ledgers (1913-1914 and 1919-1951), account journal for acquisition of goods for the store's inventory (1912-1919), and group portrait photograph entitled "Charles Milkint and Sons".
The 1913-1914 account ledger documents customer accounts, and includes a name index in the front. Transactions are grouped by customer, and include date, product sold, and cost in dollars and cents. Food products sold include apples, brown sugar, butter, cabbage, coffee, corn, corn syrup, cucumbers, eggs, gum and candy, herring, lard, potatoes, rice, root beer, salt, tomato soup, tomatoes, and vinegar. Other products sold include bales of straw, brooms, cleansers, coffee pots, jars, oil, paper, shoes, soap, starch, stove pipes, and tobacco, among others.
In addition to food, the 1919-1951 ledger contains transactions for carpet, copper tubing, a gas water heater, hay, a large file, oats, paint, rugs, a sink, straw, and wall paper, among other items. This ledger also contains a record of what appear to be real estate rentals from ca. 1930-1950.
The 1912-1919 account journal for acquisition of store inventory lists transactions chronologically on 171 pages; each transaction includes date of purchase, name of vendor, cost in dollars and cents, location of vendor, and record of payment.
