      <head>Biographical Information
</head>
      <p>William Robinson Terry, born on 14 August 1824 in Amherst County, Virginia, graduated from the University of Virginia in 1848.  Prior to his admittance to the bar in 1851, he taught school and studied law.  Terry opened his law practice in Wytheville where he also edited the <title xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:type="simple" render="italic" xlink:href="">Wytheville Telegraph</title>.  During the Civil War, Terry served with the Stonewall Brigade, reaching the rank of brigadier general in the Confederate States Army.  He served in the United States Congress as a representative for two terms (1871-1873, 1875-1877) and was a delegate to the Democratic Party convention in 1880.  Terry drowned in Reed Creek on 5 September 1889 while on a return trip from Grayson County and is buried in East End Cemetery in Wytheville, Virginia.
