The Papers originally comprised part of a collection of miscelleaneous documents discovered by William Hall of Wytheville, Virginia. Hall subsequently gave these documents to Mary B. Kegley

Biographical Information

David S. Pierce was born on 17 August 1846. As a cadet at the Virginia Military Institute he fought at the Battle of New Market in May 1864. He practiced law in Wytheville, Virginia and died on 3 December 1893.

Scope and Content

The Papers consist of three letters written by attorney David S. Pierce seeking reimbursements for debts owed by Stuart and Palmer, Inc. and Holston Salt and Plaster Company. In two letters, dated 3 December 1877 and 29 December 1877, Pierce exhorts George W. Palmer to send him funds. Pierce writes his uncle [unknown] in a 29 December 1877 letter that unless he receives funds to cover debts owed by Stuart and Palmer my personal property will be sold at sacrifice. Also included in this collection are three broadsides advertising land for sale in Cripple Creek, Virginia and Wytheville, Virginia in 1886.
