    <head>Biography</head>
<p>Hugh Bowen McCallum was born in Tennessee on January 9, 1835. During the Civil War, he served as a minister in the Confederate Army. After the Civil War, he lived in South Carolina and moved to Florida in 1867. He was the first minister at the First Baptist Church in Lake City, Columbia County and became the publisher and editor of The Florida Baptist. He founded The Florida Union, which became The Florida Times-Union. He died on January 31, 1883, in Jacksonville and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.</p>  </bioghist>
