    <head>Biographical / Historical</head>
<p>Santiago Juarez was a Mexican-American soldier who served in US occupied Japan, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Juarez was a first-generation Mexican-American from California born to migrant workers. While abroad, Juarez married a Japanese woman named Hatsuko Sakai. In 1950, Juarez was wounded in action in Korea and later settled in California after the war's conclusion.</p>  </bioghist>

    <head>Content Description</head>
<p>This collection contains photographs and ephemera from a decorated Mexican-American soldier who was active during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The photographs in the collection portray Juarez's wife Hatsuko Sakai, from Japan. Photographs also depict Juarez in uniform, as well as landscape scenes from Japan, and American servicemen interacting with prisoners of war. In addition, the collection includes ephemera such as Juarez's U.S. Army Geneva Convention ID card, mess hall passes, pamphlets, and military insignia stripes.</p>  </scopecontent>
