Virginia Clark and Tillie Clark were two students from Virginia who studied at Martha Washington College.
Martha Washington College was established in 1853 by the Independent Order of Old Fellows McCabe Lodge No. 56. The College was transferred to the Holston Conference of the Methodist Church in 1858, which purchased the Gen. Francis Preston House (ca. 1832. Martha Washington College opened with its first class in 1860.
In 1918, the school merged with Emory & Henry College in Emory, VA. Martha Washington College continued operations as a junior college until 1931. The former building was later transformed into the Martha Washington Inn by 1937.

A note on names, Clark is occasionally spelled with an "e" for both students. Tillie is sometimes spelled with a "y" instead of an "ie."
