<p>An eight page letter from G.S. Meade in Honolulu, Hawaii, to a Mr. Atkinson. Meade was staying in the home of a British Bishop while touring the islands. Along with describing the native Hawaiian people, and the environment of Hawaii in detail, the letter names specific Hawaiians Meade met at a garden party. Meade writes that "to me it is no pleasant sight to see a favored land with its own princess to govern it, actually in the hands of another race, its trade taken by foreigners, its fields tilled, its resources developed: such is the case in Hawaii."</p><p>Content warning for derogatory language and/or descriptions directed towards indigenous populations. </p> </scopecontent>
