Written on letter sheet with a stamp featuring General McClellan. Includes derogatory language directed towards enslaved people.</p>  </scopecontent>

<p>John R. Guthrie enlisted on August 1, 1861 in Clarion County, Pennsylvania as a Sergeant and mustered into Company F of the 63rd Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment. He was killed at the Second Battle of Bull Run on August 29, 1862.</p>  </bioghist>
