Content Description

Two page letter from William & Mary student, Robert Michie, informing his cousin, David Watson, of the activities of the school, students, and faculty. Michie mentions the selling of Hornsby house in an eggnog fit and in sending Blue (Tom) and Lemon (enslaved persons) with notes to Tucker (St. George) regarding the legality of this transaction but his inability to immediately attend to the issue has caused them to travel to his residence to inquire about the issue. Michie also mentions some students Watson would have been acquainted with while he attended the school; Whitfield in the Law School, Beale, Lee, Smith, Prior, Parker, and Deanes. He reports that Tomlin talks of not attending, Taylor is in Richmond, and Howard will not attend. Michie continues in his letter with comments regarding Peach's high demand as a professor and his eclipsing of Maury in that regard. Michie further comments that Yancey is a bad fellow in regard to his ability to pay back debts owed and that Morris is negative. In conclusion, Michie writes of attending a show performance that evening that has promised big Chinese shades, the flying of snakes, and other philosophical experiments too tedious to mention.
 </scopecontent>
