    <head>Scope and Contents</head>
<p>This collection contains the diary of Pearl Johntz, who was a Red Cross Canteen captain in Kansas during World War I. The Red Cross Canteen service cooked food for soldiers across the United States. The entries detail the Red Cross Canteen's daily activities and social events, including activities relating to the United States war effort. There are also three photographs, two of which are from February 1918.</p>  </scopecontent>
