    <head>Scope and Contents</head>
<p>Scrapbook probably kept by Lyon G. Tyler. Contains newspaper clippings which concern politics especially the campaign of Fitzhugh Lee for governor of Virginia, the General Assembly of Virginia from December 1887-March 1888 as well as clippings concerning the College of William and Mary.</p><p> Scrapbook containing newspaper clippings chiefly relating to political affairs in Virginia.</p><p> Note:  The book contains the following clippings relating to William and Mary College:</p><p> -An account of the Senate discussion of the bill to establish a normal school at the college, 1888, p. 161.</p><p> -A short sketch of the life of Col. Robert Tyler, an alumnus of the college, p. 197.</p><p> -An account of the election of Lyon G. Tyler as president, p. 198.</p><p> -A description of the sun dial on the college campus and an account of its loss during the Civil War and its return in 1889, p. 201.</p><p> -A list of students awarded distinctions, 1889, p. 202.</p><p> -A letter from Lyon G. Tyler to the editor of the Richmond Dispatch, 27 Nov. 1890, regarding a proposed chair of biology at William and Mary College and an experimental farm for the scientific study of the oyster, p. 208.</p>  </scopecontent>
