    <head>Scope and Contents</head>
<p>Three letterpress copy books of the Fletcher Family.  The books are written by a woman, possibly from Georgia. The writer is an ancestor of the donor, Dr. John S. Fletcher.  Partial signatures suggest Joan and Hownick.</p><p> Msv. 1 has some water damage and much faded ink.  Cover unattached.  Includes a few pages of transcript from letters written from Richmond, Virginia from July 22-26, 1861.  Carbon paper in back of book.  July-September 1861.</p><p> Describes traveling from Charleston, South Carolina to Virginia with 100  soldiers and the Confederate Vice President and the enthusiastic crowds who met them along the way.  Mentions the Battle of Manassas and other battles, plus the activity around Richmond, Virginia involving troops, General Robert E. Lee and President Jefferson Davis.</p><p> Msv. 2 has some water damage and much faded ink.  Cover unattached.  Carbon paper in back of book.  October 1861 to May 1866.</p><p> 1861-1863 Manassas and Richmond, Virginia.</p><p> January 1866-May 1866, Florida and Georgia.</p><p> Comments on treatment of  and opinion about southerners after the war.</p><p> Msv. 3 has colored paper between the pages and the ink has faded and almost illegible. Mostly essays and poems.  Probably the writings of Julia Collier, a New Englander and the donor's great grandmother.  Undated.</p>  </scopecontent>
