Moses A. Ethriage, Camp Whiting [Wilmington, N.C.?], to Bettie [Ethriage], no place. Has been sick since leaving home, otherwise would have left with four others that were going home; tells of desertions because of a law passed which will not pay conscripts their bounty; says once he gets paid he is coming home unless they move him too far away; tells of bad rations; says he wants to see her so bad and that he dreams of her; says she should try and come visit him if he doesn't get moved; tells her to direct her letter to Wilmington and tell of all the news. 6 June 1863. Moses A. Ethriage, Camp Davis, [?], to Bettie [Ethriage], no place. Is glad to hear from her; talks of clothes he sent home and of a pair of pants he wants her to send; he gets plenty to eat to "keep us from running away;" he just shaved so she would be bound to kiss him. Postscript- wants news from home and hopes to see her soon. 9 June 1863. Moses A. Ethriage, Camp David [?], to Miss Mary C. Fasin, no place. Glad to hear from her and that she must write more; tell the boys to write to him, tell B.H. that he misses her and that "she must do the best she can." 9 Oct. 1863. Moses A. Ethriage, Sullivan's Island [Charleston, S.C.], to Bettie [Ethriage], no place. Happy to get two letters from her; he is doing well and getting enough to eat; no fighting going on and wishes for furloughs; hopes war will end soon so he can see her; talks of prices at home and where he is; must go to Mr. Fowler and get better prices for provisions; is glad that she and Mary Candis have made a "profession of Religion." Includes from Moses A. Ethriage, Sullivan's Island, [S.C.], to Mr. Benjamin Faison, no place, undated. Hopes all are doing well and apologizes for not writing; says that if he can get a good price, to go and buy B.H. a "good fat beef" and salt it up.</p></scopecontent></c></c></dsc>
