    <head>Scope and Contents</head>
<p>Photograph album comprising 15 pages and 61 black and white photographs of various sizes. The photographs are adhered to the stiff heavy paper sheets. Photograph album was created by John Carling, Major and Assistant Surgeon of the 35th United States Volunteer Infantry. It consists of photographs documenting world travels while on board the United States Army Transport Ship, <emph render="italic">Thomas,</emph> around 1901. Descriptions of the photographs and location accompany each photograph including one of the <emph render="italic">Thomas</emph> taken by J.D. Givens. Locations documented include Manila, San Miguel, and Balinag in the Philippines, Singapore, The Suez Canal, and Malta. Many of the photos depict native Filipinos at work, posing for the photo, or attending church  services. There are also photographs of the officers of the 35th Volunteer Infantry and images of their Quarters in San Miguel and Balinag.</p>  </scopecontent>
