Much of Acc. 2011.584 was kept by a chapter member in a filing cabinet at his mother's home before being transferred to Swem Library. Portions of this collection, mostly fliers and similar, were previously part of the University Archives Publications Collection & Student Organizations Collection.

This collection includes posters, fliers, programs, cards, memorabilia, letters sent to alumni, membership interest forms, issues of The Sphinx, and other material from the Kappa Pi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. at the College of William and Mary. The records include material from both the College of William and Mary chapter as well as information from the national chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha.
The artifacts transferred in 2011 were housed and described in the University Archives Artifact Collection. All large format posters were housed and described in the University Archives Poster Collection. Any new additions will be added to this collection guide, as they should be. The separate items will eventually be described here and removed from the artifical collections they were placed in.
