Thomas L. Alfriend (1843-1901) was a Sergeant, of Company B, 15th Virginia Infantry. He was captured at Sayler's Creek, April 6, 1865, and was confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until June 23, 1865. After the war, he returned to Richmond and entered the insurance business.
Frank H. Alfriend (1841-1887) was the younger brother of Thomas L. Alfriend. He became a biographer of Jefferson Davis.

The addition contains 25 typewritten pages of transcripts of letters by Jefferson Davis, James Seddon and others mostly written to or about Frank Heath Alfriend (1841-1887), journalist and teacher and author of a book entitled "The Life of Jefferson Davis." Location of original typescripts of letters and the originals are unknown. Originals were sold at Sotheby's.
