Garrett, is an invitation to deliver an address to the Frankliniaen Society, a 19th century student organization at William and Mary. The second letter, dated March 26, 1845 and written by student Jonathan R. Coupland, is an invitation for McDowell to become an honorary member of the Licivyronean Society, a literary society at William and Mary. The third letter, dated May 1, 1847 and written by John L. Scott, John E. Friend, Charles R. MacAlpine, and William H. Mitchell (members of the class of 1847), is an invitation addressed to the Honorable James McDowell, United States Congressman (Va.), to attend commencement excercises at William and Mary on July 4, 1847.</p></scopecontent></c></dsc>
