Sarasota, Florida, to Peggy Kellem [Mrs. Robert Kellem], East
Chatham, New York. Gray thanks Kellem for the gift of the

         <title xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:type="simple" render="italic" xlink:href="">The Longest Day</title>about which he
says, "Reading it was the experience of the winter, magnified
by the fact that one of the 82nd Airborne who was behind the
lines all that 'longest' night was actually in the room
talking to me." He also mentions the appointment of General
[James M.] Gavin as Ambassador to France. Brigadier General
James Maurice Gavin led the assault of the 82nd Airborne
Division during the "longest day" of World War II, June 6,
         1944.</p>
