 Scope and Content

This addition to the papers of Louis J. Halle, Jr.(b. 1910), political scientist and naturalist, consists of the correspondence, 1979 and 1984-1994, ca. 250 items (1 Hollinger box) between Halle and Herbert S. Bailey, Jr., former Director of the Princeton University Press, accompanied by copies of each others poetry, observations, essays, and newsclippings, chiefly concerning scholarly and philosophical questions of mutual interest. Several of Halle's manuscripts such as Food for Thought(renamed The Butterfly Effect), The Road to Avalon, and his books Men and Nations, The Cold War as Historyand The Appreciation of Birdsare discussed throughout the correspondence. Bailey and Halle also offered advice and constructive criticism of each other's literary work as it was being produced.
