<p>This collection contains thirty-four handwritten diaries written by Homan W. Walsh, a Charlottesville lawyer, spanning the years 1930-1963. These diaries contain Walsh's daily plans and some observations on different topics.</p>  </scopecontent>

    <head>Biographical / Historical</head>
<p>Homan Watson Walsh was born in Lockport, New York, 7 September 1882.  He graduated from Harvard College in 1903 and received his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1906.  In 1907 he was admitted to the bar in Virginia and moved to Charlottesville, where he practiced law with Daniel Harmon.  Between 1921-1926, he was part of the Allen, Walsh, and Michie law firm with Charles W. Allen and Judge Thomas J. Michie.  From 1926 to 1946, he was associated with Judge Lyttelton Waddell and Judge George M. Coles. From 1946 to 1959, he served as vice president and trust officer of the Peoples National Bank of Charlottesville, becoming its director and serving as such until 1963.</p><p>He also served as president of the Virginia State Bar (1945); as chairman of the Charlottesville School Board (1939-1952); chairman of the Charlottesville Library Board (1932-1952); vestry of St. Paul's Episcopal Church,  member of the Board of Trustees of  Martha Jefferson Hospital, and member of many other organization in Charlottesville.</p><p>Holman W. Walsh died in 1963.</p>  </bioghist>
