    <head>Biographical / Historical</head>
<p>William Estill Fife was born in 1834 in Charleston, West Virginia. He graduated from VMI in 1855. During the Civil War he was a Lieutenant Colonel with the 36th Virginia Infantry. After the War, Fife was a farmer. He died in a railroad accident in 1891 in Puntnam County, West Virginia.</p>  </bioghist>
