    <head>Biographical / Historical</head>
<p>Robert August Earle was born in 1906 in Montclair, New Jersey. He graduated from VMI in 1927. During World War II he was a Marine Corps officer. He was also a captain with the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey. Earle died in 1991 in Williamsburg, Virginia.</p>  </bioghist>
