    <head>Biographical / Historical</head>
<p>John Francis Bransford was born in 1846 in Chesterfield County, Virginia. He graduated from VMI in 1867 and was a New Market cadet. After graduation he was a surgeon and served in the United States Navy from 1872 to 1901. Bransford died in 1911 near Bon Air, Virginia.</p>  </bioghist>
