<p>This  collection consists of one letter (dated August 6, 1869) to Cadet Thomas Forbes, Jr. from his father. The letter mentions sending money so that Forbes can travel to the springs with other members of the Corps. This letter was found in the VMI Treasurer's records in 1981.</p>  </scopecontent>

<p>Thomas Forbes, Jr. was born in 1852 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He graduated from VMI in 1872 and went on to be a cotton exporter. He died in 1926 in Sherman, Texas.</p>  </bioghist>
