The George S. Plants, Jr. papers consist of four items relating primarily to VMI cadetship of George S. Plants (1904-1906), including:

  • A cadet account book that lists VMI expenses from 1904 to 1906
  • A notebook containing popular VMI football yells (circa 1905)
  • One letter (dated May 14, 1905) from Plants to his parents concerning the mess hall fire and the upcoming New Market Day ceremony
  • One letter (dated July 1909) from Plants's classmate Jesse P. Jarvis (VMI Class of 1908)

 Biographical/Historical Information

George Sands Plants, Jr. was born in Paint Rock, Texas on December 16, 1885 to Galen Sands Plants and Frances Agnes Cooke. He entered VMI in September 1904 and resigned in March 1906. He immediately accepted the position of bookkeeper at First National Bank of Seymour, Texas. He spent his entire career at that institution, serving as President and Chairman of the Board, and was active in civic affairs.

Plants married Verda Kenan of Seymour on February 8, 1911 and the couple had three daughters: Janette, Elsa, and Martha. He died in Seymour on April 30, 1971.
