<p>Rev. Thomas W. Ogden (1875-1967) was a Methodist preacher based out of Virginia, including Richmond, Amherst County, and Rockbridge County. In 1900, based on the owner's mark in the diary, Ogden's address was Vesuvius in Rockbridge County.</p>  </bioghist>

    <head>Scope and Contents</head>
<p>Rev. Thomas W. Ogden's diary entries cover January 1, 1900 through March 5, 1900 when he is in Vesuvius, Rockbridge County. Assorted notations and lists are included in the back pages of the diary. In the entries, Ogden discusses his spiritual journey (non-specific acts of sinning) and physical health (a bout with boils), the weather, and his daily activities including the various people he encounters, churches he visits, and places he travels. Of note are the "Western Lunatic Asylum" in Staunton, Sherando, Stuarts Draft, Meadow Mountain, and Greenville.</p>  </scopecontent>
