Louis Philipe I (1773-1850), also known as the Citizen King, was King of the French from 1830-1848. He is the last French monarch with the title "King" being succeeded by Emperor Napoleon III. Coming to power following the Bourbon Restoration, Louis Philipe began his reign promising a new constitutional monarchy modeled after the British, but found himself faced with growing political unrest. He was ultimately overthrown and formally abdicated following the French Revolution of 1848 and the founding of the French Second Republic.
