    <head>Biographical and Historical Note</head>
<p>The Interlochen Center for the Arts, originally known as the National Music Camp, was established in 1928 by Joseph Maddy and Thaddeus P. Giddings in Interlochen, MIchigan. The camp grew in size and reputation over time, becoming an internationally renowned center for music and the arts. In 1966, Interlochen hosted the International Society for Music Education conference, the first time it was hosted in the western hemisphere. Interlochen Center for the Arts remains a respected and popular player in the international classical music and performing arts scene.</p><p>Norman Dello Joio was an American composer who received the Pulitzer Prize in music for his piece "Meditation on Ecclesiastes." Dello Joio was also known for his choral music. Born in 1913 in New York, he passed away in 2008.</p><p>Dmitri Kabalevsky was a Russian composer of nationalistic music, which was extremely popular in the Soviet Union during his lifetime. Born in 1904 in St. Petersburg, Kabalevsky was mainly known for writing opera. He passed away in 1987.</p><p>Zoltan Kodaly was a Hungarian composer. Born in 1882 in Hungary, he was an authority on Hungarian folk music and a respected music educator. He famously collaborated with Bela Bartok on a published edition of Hungarian folk songs. Kodaly passed away in 1967.</p>  </bioghist>
