Historical Information

During the 1930s, Korea was still under Japanese rule, and would be until 1945. Under this rule and post-annexation, Korea was given the Japanese name of "Chosen." Similarly, in 1895 Japan invaded Taiwan, with China ceding the island to Japan. Under this strain Taiwan asserted itself as the "Republic of Formosa," though it was still under Japanese occupation, and would be until 1945, with China taking control of the country soon after World War II.
 </bioghist>
