Biographical sketch

Preston Womack of Prince Edward County, Virginia, was born in 1874 to Edward Lockett and Sallie Emmett Womack. In 1888, she enrolled at then-State Female Normal School and earned her diploma in 1892. After graduation, Womack relocated to Washington, D.C. where she was employed for several decades as a land law clerk at the Department of Agriculture.

Ownership and Custodial History

The diploma in this collection was received by Preston Womack in June 1892. This item was donated to the Greenwood Library Archives on December 9, 2021 by Pauline Womack Spencer, a niece of Preston Womack.

Scope and content

This collection consists of a Licentiate of Teaching, issued by the State Female Normal School, earned by Preston Womack in June 1892.
